Experience

Matthew Taylor B.Eng PhD C.Eng FIET (Managing Director) joined the Electrical Industry in the late 1990s where he worked at Cardiff University as a PhD research student, providing site investigations and earthing designs to the Distribution Network Owners (DNOs). After completing his PhD on soil resistivity measurement and analysis techniques in 2001, he began working as an Earthing Consultant for Strategy and Solutions. Moving to ERM in 2005, he worked his way up to Managing Director whilst developing his earthing experience and adding lightning protection capability before leaving to start MJT Earthing and Lightning Protection Consultants.

With over 25 years of experience in earthing design and testing, lightning protection risk assessment and design, Matthew is a recognised UK expert and has completed hundreds of technical reports including 11kV distribution to 400kV transmission substations, power stations (including nuclear), railway electrification, overhead lines, renewables, large industrial sites and pipeline interference studies

Matthew has contributed to several British and Industry technical standards (BS EN 50522, TS 41-24 Issue 2, ENA EREC G78 and EREC S41) and sits on the GEL/81 working group for BS EN 62305. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the IET, with a CDEGS level1 qualification, Matthew is passionate about providing quality advice and bringing on the next generation of earthing and lightning protection engineers; regularly providing training to industry on behalf of EA Technology.
